Invitation
Dear Colleagues and Friends in the Seed Industry,
The majestic landscape of the Canadian Rocky Mountains will set the scene for members of the international seed community to meet to trade seed, share their knowledge, and consider research and technology developments. Delegates will make new connections and celebrate existing industry relationships - all with the purpose of taking the seed industry to new heights.
The Canadian Seed Trade Association (CSTA) is proud to host the ISF World Seed Congress 2010. Located in the heart of downtown Calgary, the TELUS Convention Centre is our Congress venue. It is within easy walking distance of the three host hotels.
Our National Organizing Committee has planned an exciting program that we trust you will find rewarding both professionally and socially. From the trading floor and exhibition space, to private meeting rooms, the evening events and individual hotel guest rooms, we promise you won't be disappointed.
We invite you to join us in Calgary. Come be inspired!
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Agriculture in Canada is among the most sophisticated and technologically advanced in the world. It is one of the largest exporters of agricultural commodities. Much of this is due to the entrepreneurial nature of its farmers. Canadian farmers are well aware of the value of improved varieties developed using the latest technologies, including genetic engineering.
With signs of recovery from the economic crisis slowly becoming evident, food security is back on the world agenda, along with a renewed appreciation of the role of agricultural development in driving economic growth. In recent months ISF participated in many high-level meetings to underline the potential of plant breeding in agricultural development.
It was also one of the organizers of the 2009 World Seed Conference at FAO in Rome. During all these events the contribution of existing improved varieties and high quality seeds to the alleviation of hunger in the short term was highlighted, and the promise that plant breeding using advanced technologies offered in the long term was emphasized. Some of these topics will also be addressed during the 2010 World Seed Congress.
Canada is a showpiece for what modern agriculture can contribute to the economic success of individual farmers and a nation as a whole. Therefore, it is my pleasure to warmly welcome you and your family to witness this at the World Seed Congress in the beautiful city of Calgary. Thanks to the enthusiasm of the Canadian Seed Trade Association I know we can count on a successful and highly enjoyable Congress.
